The Learning Center

My Graphics Shop strives to be educated and to help educate you, our customer, so that you can make the most informed decisions. We want to make sure we can offer you the best choice in materials, design and price. Here at the Learning Center, we will try to give you the best information we can regarding the materials we use for your project(s). It is our way of helping you decide what will work best for you, your business and your budget. Below we have listed our most commonly used materials. If you would like information about other options, we would be happy to assist you in coming up with the best solution possible, for your project(s).

DIGITAL MEDIA

Digital Media refers to any media that is made to be printed. We generally refer to our wide format media as "digital media," which includes: vinyl, banner, paper and more.

Paper - If you've ever written or printed a typed letter, you know there are many different types of paper available - from photo paper to letterhead or resume paper to regular copy paper. We are able to print gloss or matte finished products on wide format printers. Think about blue prints or plan designs. What about bulletin boards, meeting charts or temporary event signage?

Window Perf - This type of vinyl is specially made to be applied to windows and allows you to see through it from one side. From full retail window displays to vehicle graphics, we are able to design, print and apply this type of material for you.

BANNERS

Banner (Economy) - 13 oz. - This material is a sturdy indoor/outdoor material. We can print an image directly on the banner material, or apply vinyl.

Banner (Premium) - 19 oz. "block out" - This material can be used to cover illuminated signage with a blank or new image, while blocking the light from penetrating through. It blocks out a certain amount of light so that your temporary signage can be the focal point and not what's underneath. This material is ideal for conversion and re-branding processes.

BANNER FINISHING

Sewn Hems - Sewn hems are recommended, as the banners will be sewn with a 1" hem around all four sides, with industrial strength thread. This finish allows banners to be hung outdoors for long periods of time.

Taped Hems - Extra strength, double sided tape is used to create these hems, by folding over 1" of all four edges of the banner and adhering them to the backside of the banner. This type of hem is recommended for banners hung inside or banners temporarily hung outdoors.

Pole Pockets - Pole pockets are similar to curtain hems, in that they allow you to thread a rod or pole through top and/or bottom of the banners, in preparation for hanging.

Table Covers - These can be custom made to fit any size or shaped table. Due to the customizable options, they are ideal for retail displays, conferences, seminars, trade shows, special events, and the like.

Grommets - Grommets are protective eyelets that protect the banner material from being damaged when hung. Generally, grommets are a standard addition to just about any banner. They are placed approximately every 12-18" around the perimeter, to allow for versatile hanging ability.

MEDIA

We use the term 'media' to refer to material that can not only be printed on, but cut and applied to substrates and other materials as well.

Economy Colored Vinyl - Vinyl can be applied to just about any surface. Economy Vinyl has a durability of up to 3 years, outdoors. Colored vinyl is generally cut and applied to a surface, and not printed on. Some popular surfaces for vinyl application are windows, banners, awnings, temporary signage and vehicle/boat wraps. Colored vinyl comes in a variety of different colors. The most popular being red, yellow, blue, black and green. Click here for our colored banner color chart.

Reflective and Florescent Vinyl - These vinyls have the same quality and makeup as our economy/premium vinyl; however, they come in a variety of florescent colors and reflective surfaces.

MEDIA FINISHING

Solvent Adhesive Vinyl - Laminating your vinyl prints is always recommended. This adds one more layer of UV protection, gives your print a glossy (or matte) finish and protects it every day exposure and handling.

SUBSTRATES

Alumilite - Composed of lightweight aluminum over coroplast. This material is good for indoor and outdoor use. This material is stain resistant, flexible and long lasting. Suggested uses are: wall or fence signs, exhibits and lightweight props.

Acrylic - Cast acrylic is a lightweight and easy to use substrate that is durable and weather resistant. This material is very common for exterior signage, but can also be used inside. Available Thicknesses: 1/16", 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2". The possibilities are endless with acrylic: Translucent lettering, opaque letters or images, backlit signage, bent easels and plaques are just a few ideas for acrylic signage.

Coroplast - Corrugated sign blanks are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. This material is sturdy plastic, reinforced with a corrugated interior and twin walls. Made of a copolymer polypropylene plastic sheet, it is lightweight, weatherproof, and stain resistant. It comes in 4mm and 10mm. This material is great for road-side advertising or temporary signage. Use coroplast signage at Corporate events, to advertise or to make a poster. This is our most popular substrate, which is very versatile in its uses.

Gatorfoam - This lightweight material is made of polystyrene foam core sandwiched between 2 moisture resistant wood fiber veneers. This is excellent for presentations of any kind, as well as indoor temporary signage.

Omega Signboard - This is an exterior grade hardwood plywood core with a high grade vinyl laminate exterior. This material comes one or two-sided and can withstand the Elements.

Magnetics - This is a high quality vinyl, laminated to a thermoplastic permanent magnetic sheet. This product remains flexible and even conforms to mildly curved shapes.

M.D.O. (Medium Density Overlay) - M.D.O. is a resin infused fiber overlay, fused to an exterior soft wood. It is opaque in color and while this material is made to be used outdoors, we, along with the manufacturer, recommend sealing the edges for such applications.
